Michael Jackson fans paid tribute to the pop icon who tragically died of a suspected heart attack yesterday at 10.25pm British time.
That night singers at The White Hart karaoke, in Hemel Hempstead, sang a succession of Michael Jackson songs as soon as they heard the news.

Julia Coots who runs the karaoke night said: "One of the punters came over and told me. I thought she was pulling my leg but it had been on the television.

"I announced it to the pub and at about 11.15pm I started getting loads of Michael Jackson song request. The regular karaoke singers got up and did quite a few songs; Blame It On The Boogie, You Are Not Alone and Heal The World, were some. There was real feeling of unity.

"It's so sad. Whatever he was he was a fantastic musician and every one of his songs seems to bring back memories of moments in my life. He's like Elvis for our era. I'm sure there will be more people singing Michael Jackson songs during the weekend."

Other fans put messages on their Facebook updates.

Some people wrote about how they felt a piece of their childhood had gone while others posted their favourite songs up on the site.

On the other hand some people made negative comments and jokes about the 50-year-old musician's death.

This morning more people woke up to the news, which was the main story of all of the television and radio programmes.

People continued to pay tribute to the controversial star in their own way.

In Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, Michael Jackson songs could be heard blaring out of cars and out of people's homes.

Michael Jackson died after suffering a massive heart attack in his LA mansion. His brother Jermaine made the announcement to the press.

Many people were in disbelief at the news and it was first thought that he was in a coma as the reports that he had died were unconfirmed on news channels, including the BBC and Sky News.

The LA Times was the first to make the official statement to the world about the tragic death of the much-loved pop star, who was about to start a 50-date- concert programme at The O2, in London.
