A Herts Highways boss has warned the county's road conditions are 'likely to be difficult' if sleet and snow return.
Forecasts show the likely return of freezing temperatures this week with the potential for further sleet and snow showers and the possibility of snow settling at the end of the week.

"Conditions on Hertfordshire's roads are likely to be difficult this week," said Stuart Pile, Executive Member for Highways and Transport.

"We are continuing our salting runs but, in line with actions being taken by other highway authorities and instructions from central government, we are salting a reduced network of roads."

The reduced network includes all A and B roads plus roads that provide access to essential emergency services like hospitals and key fire stations.
