Could new proposals derail parking moans?
PROPOSALS that could end parking gripes for people who live near a rail station are being formulated.
Dacorum Borough Council’s portfolio holder for environmental services and sustainability Julie Laws will decide whether to start a formal consultation into extending the parking enforcement in Station Road, Tring.
Information was collected last year when people in the Tring Station parking scheme were asked whether they would like their parking enforcement to be extended to Saturdays and Sundays.
The permit holders have been putting up with an increasing amount of commuters parking in their street trying to avoid paying the weekend tariffs that were introduced by London Midland at the railway station.
Councillor Rosemarie Hollinghurst said: “If the residents are in favour it will go out to public consultation.
“An extension would certainly help because when people who live there leave their space it is usually gone by the time they return.
“There is not allocated parking on the road but the residents have been happy with the situation on weekdays when restrictions are in place.”
Parking around the station has been an ongoing problem that also affects Clarkes Spring and Beggars Lane.
The issue in Clarkes Spring escalated to the point where police sent letters to the residents following reports that commuters were being abused and a car was damaged.
Parish councillor for Tring Station Rob McCarthy pointed out that the problem had to be looked at in its totality because stopping people parking in one area could have a balloon effect and make them park inappropriately elsewhere.
He said: “It has to be given careful thought as we could get unwanted results.”
