Children of Rowan Class at Victoria First School, Berkhamsted, met Mayor Ron Cowie at the Fair Trade Coffee Morning at the Court House.

A coffee morning held to mark the end of this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight raised more than £300 for the ethical cause.

Berkhamsted’s Fairtrade steering committee joined forces with children at the Victoria CofE First School to serve dedicated drinks and cakes, as well as selling specially created ‘mug hugs’ made by the pupils.

Town mayor Ron Cowie and the Women’s Institute also offered support.

Steering group chairman Angela Morris said: “I think it was our most successful event yet. It was lots of fun and the children were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Fairtrade.

“The money we raised was fantastic but it was mostly about getting information across about small-scale farmers, not just the already established Fairtrade suppliers. That was our chief aim this year.”
