Hair’s a way to help a good cause this month
Healthcare charity Sue Ryder is calling on the community to do something fun that will, at the same time, make a real difference to people’s lives.
A lot of people consider re-styling themselves in the new year, and if you’re thinking of a new look then why not support people with incurable illnesses at the same time and take part in Febru-hairy, Sue Ryder’s hair-raising challenge.
Whether you belong to a school, business, team, pub, club, association or simply want to have fun with friends, there are plenty of ways to show that you care. Any hairy activity is encouraged – wax it, shave it, dye it, wear it or dream up your own hairy activity to raise funds - the wackier the better!
Fundraiser Emma Taylor says: ‘At Sue Ryder HQ we are holding Wig Wednesdays throughout the whole of Febru-hairy and doing bake sales to raise money. Whether it’s a Celebrity Look-a-Like competition, a Wig Pub Crawl, Sponsored Wax-a-Thon or Trim a Teacher, there is an idea to suit everyone.”Sue Ryder is a national charity that provides compassionate care to people living with with incurable illnesses including; cancer, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, stroke, Huntington’s disease, MND, MS and brain injury.
£50 could cover the cost of a therapy session for somebody with dementia, and £120 could cover the cost of a nurse for one day.

With more than 50 years’ experience, Sue Ryder supports people with complex needs and life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, dementia and stroke at seven hospices and seven care centres across the UK .
To provide care and fund future service developments, Sue Ryder needs to raise approximately £20 million each year through fundraising and Sue Ryder’s shops, of which there are some 370 in the UK. Sue Ryder also relies on volunteering support and currently has more than 8,000 volunteers across the UK supporting its work.
