Landlords bag hospice trophy

A PUB has earned a prize after it became the town’s most generous watering hole.

Brook Street boozer The Robin Hood was given a trophy after it won the 2011 Pub Challenge run by Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice (IRGH).

The competition, sponsored by Tring Brewery, invited pubs to see which could raise the most for the charity, which helps people with life-threatening illnesses.

The Robin Hood, which holds regular charity quizzes, a yearly cycle challenge and a Christmas raffle. has given almost £33,500 to the cause since 2007 and raised more than £8,500 last year alone.

Landlord Terry Johnson, who runs the pub with Stewart Canham, said: “We would do it anyway without a trophy, but it is nice to be recognised by Iain Rennie.”
