A man aged 30 is in police custody as detectives continue their investigation into the death of a man in his 60s

Police and firefighters were called to the scene in Westerdale, Highfield, just after midnight on Friday and later confirmed that the victim, believed to be in his 60s, had died in the blaze.

Scenes of crime officers are working alongside specialist fire investigators from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to work out what caused the fire.

Det Chief Insp Mark Ross of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Joint Major Crime Unit said: “Although this incident occurred during the night, the property is in a residential area and there may have been people who may have seen or heard suspicious activity.

“I would appeal to anyone who believes they can assist the investigation, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should contact the Major Crime Unit via the non-emergency number 101.
