A devoted daughter is running next month’s London Marathon in memory of her mother who died from cancer.

Rose Brunt is competing for the Hospice of St Francis, the Northchurch-based charity that provides care and support for the terminally ill and their families.

Her mum Joan, who passed away in 2007, was cared for at the hospice before she died.

Rose, 32, said: “The hospice provided unbelievable comfort and support to all of us in my mum’s last weeks.”

The hospice is only allocated one fundraising marathon place every five years, and sporty Rose, who grew up in Berkhamsted, was picked from many applicants to fly the flag for the charity. She is hoping to raise more than £5,000.

She said: “I’m terrified at the distance, but the cause means so much to me I’m hoping somehow it will keep my legs moving for 26.2 miles.”

Hospice community fundraiser Emma Day said: “We are delighted to have chosen Rose Brunt to take on her first marathon in memory of her mum. Thanks for going that extra mile for us, Rose!”
