Mayor Bert insists he’s fine after reception health scare

Dacorum’s mayor says he is fine despite having to leave his civic reception early due to ill health.

Councillor Bert Chapman underwent tests in hospital after being taken there by ambulance on the evening of Friday, March 8.

Chest problems meant he had to leave the event at Tring’s Pendley Manor Hotel early – but not without making his speech first. “The show must go on,” he said. “Then I went off to hospital for tests”

The popular official has been inundated with well wishes but says there is nothing to worry about.

He said: “The heart is good, there are still some more tests to come back. At the moment I am fine.

“The tests I have had already are good. I have been seeing my own doctor and he hasn’t given me anything to take.

“I would just like to say thank you to everybody for all the lovely letters and phone calls.

“I can still run up the stairs two at a time. I have always been active and will remain active as long as I can.”

The mayor has not had to cancel any of his engagements.
