Sweet idea: Hive visits will bee coming soon

Chris Bromwich of the Abbots Langley Gardening Society is hoping to introduce beehive tours in the summer.

A council grant has got Abbots Langley Gardening Society buzzing about a summer project.

A donation of £200 from the village’s parish council will go towards buying new beekeeping equipment, including extra protective suits so that people can view the hives run by the society.

Chairman Chris Bromwich said: “We are continually trying to expand the hives and we would like to show people the work put in by society members, and teach them about the bees.

“But you need warm weather to open the hives and spend time with the bees, because if the temperature is too low it damages the eggs and larvae.”

Chris hopes visits may be planned by June.
