Tring Beavers Swimming Club
The Tring Beavers Swimming Club for the disabled celebrated its 25th anniversary on Tuesday, July 28 with a lunch at the Tring Park Cricket Club.
The club chairman, Roy Tomlin, welcomed everyone present including the Mayor of Tring, Councillor Penny Hearn, Councillor Derek Townsend and 45 members.
Cllr Townsend was one of the founder members of the club, and he spoke of the early days how he and Liz Pottinger had initiated plans for the opening of the club in 1984, and how the club had developed since then.
He stressed the benefits, not only of the exercise, but also the social aspect. He is delighted with the way the Club has thrived.
Several members were present who had joined the club within the first new weeks of opening.
Albums were on display with photographs of the opening day and many special occasions throughout the club's 25 years.
Everyone enjoyed browsing through the albums recalling past members and many happy events.
The club's membership secretary Ann Emery, read messages from members unable to be present, but who wished to send best wishes and congratulations to the club.
The club meets weekly on Tuesday afternoons at Tring pool and offers an opportunity for members to exercise in water under the guidance of a leader with helpers to support.
New members and helpers are always welcome. More information from Ann Emery on 01442 824750.
