Missa Brevis and Miserere at the Abbey
HERTFORDSHIRE Chorus returns to St Albans Abbey on Saturday with a programme guaranteed to thrill.
Kodaly’s impassioned Missa Brevis, written during the Second World War, is ultimately a hopeful work, Allegri’s haunting Miserere sends shivers down the spine, and most often heard as a wedding recessional, Widor’s rousing Toccata is played by Charles Andrews, virtuoso organist and, since the beginning of this season, the Chorus’ accompanist.
Also on the programme for the night is Duruflés Requiem – a work full of haunting melodies, and Gabrieli’s Jubilate Deo – the seventeenth century miniature masterpiece is well-suited to the atmospheric surroundings of the abbey.
The concert begins on Saturday at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available online through the chorus website www.hertfordshirechorus.org.uk.
