Early Elgar on the bill at Sinfonia’s spring date

editorial image

An early work by Elgar is one of the musical highlights of the next Bridgewater Sinfonia concert to be hosted by Berkhamsted’s St Peter’s Church.

The performance at the High Street venue on Saturday, March 2 opens with Elgar’s Froissart, the composer’s first work for a large orchestra, inspired by 14th century tales of chivalry.

Jeremy Budd and Nicholas Korth will share the spotlight when the programme moves on to Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings Op 31, and the final piece of music to be featured is Vaughan Williams’ 5th Symphony, a return to romantic themes first performed in 1943.

Tickets are £15 each, with U18s free, and available online at www.bridgewater-sinfonia.org.uk

The Sinfonia’s market stall will be in the High Street from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, and there will also be a limited number of tickets available on the door from 7pm. The concert itself begins at 7.30pm.
