Delays to work to make Hemel Hempstead’s High Street one-way and give it a fresh new look caused frustration and fury for traders in the area
But now the project is finally complete, it’s time for a party – and that’s the cue for the Old Town Street Festival, planned for Saturday, July 19.
1pm to 6pm
There’s a packed programme planned between 1pm and 6pm, kicking off with a performance by the Rock Choir and including free entertainment, live music, stage performances, food demonstrations, street theatre including magicians, balloon modelling and much more.
The festival has been put together by the Old Town Partnership – a venture which sees local businesses working with Dacorum Borough Council to promote and celebrate the High Street’s rich heritage and encourage more visitors.
The Partnership plans to organise more events, like specialist markets and to develop a Heritage Trail highlighting the landmarks in the High Street and surrounding area.
The road will be closed to traffic from its junction with Queensway to Cherry Bounce for the day-long event.
The same day also sees the first Dacorum Folk Fest at The Old Town Hall, which includes music workshops, Morris dancing and face painting.
