A BUSINESS developed from a bedroom in Tring has gone on to pick up a £50,000 prize.
Ex-Tring school pupil Oliver Sidwell launched website RateMyPlacement.co.uk with two fellow students, Chris Wickson and Ali Lindsay, when he was a student at Loughborough University in 2007.
But it was during his time at home in Christchurch Road, Tring, that the site was heavily developed.
The business RMP Enterprise Ltd is now run from a London office where 13 members of staff help to run the company’s four aspects including the website, a publication and the National Placement and Internship Awards.
It picked up the cash prize to be invested in the company as one of nine regional winners of Barclays’ Take One Small Step competition.
Oliver, 26, said: “The money will help us invest heavily in marketing and concentrate on further raising our awareness in the student market, potentially expanding the team in the process.
“We are delighted to win £50,000, it’s a fantastic achievement and would like to thank all those that helped vote for us!”
Barclays will also provide support and advice to the company as part of the prize.
The winners were decided by a public vote after 5,000 businesses from across the country were whittled down to a shortlist of 27 across nine Uk regions.
Oliver, pictured left with co-founders Ali and Chris, had lived in Tring since he was four.
He attended Goldfield Infants School, Bishop Wood School and Tring School.
