Apples will be the order of the day and everyday for the rest of the month while the area recognises Apple Month with a programme of activities.

Many of the events will take place in Tring and festivities will kick off with the annual Apply Fayre at Jeacock’s Orchard and Cow Lane Farm.

Starting from 10am there will be a heavy horse plough, pony trap rides, apple pressing and juicing, farmers’ market stall and music.

The day will be followed by apple-themed events including the Apple Fayre Procession led by the apple man from 10.30am at The Kings Arms on Saturday, October 20.

The procession travels to the Farmers’ Market in Brook Street, Tring, where there will be an apple cart, school scarecrow competition, apples, juicing, real ale, morris dancing, cider, extra stalls, fruity cooking demonstrations and a restaurant cooking competition.

Over at College Lake there will also be an Apple Day with trails, arts and crafts and children’s games from 11am to 3pm.

Throughout the month Grove Road Primary School, Bishops Wood School and Dundale Primary School arts clubs will have a plums and pies exhibition at Victoria Hall in Akeman Street.

People will be able to juice apples at P E Mead Farm Shop in Wilstone, shops in Tring will compete for the best window display and the Apple Fayre cookbook will be available from the library.
