In the film, which premiered in London back in December, Barry plays David Snider - the owner of a rival newspaper the National.

The 79 year old, of Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead, also plays a lead role in The Ripperologist, which is in the final stages of production.

‘Retired’ Barry shows no signs of slowing down as he has recently finished filming for series three of the ITV hidden camera sketch show Off Their Rockers.

Barry, who started his show business career doing the rounds of theatres and working men’s clubs as a magician, said: “You never know until the day before exactly where you are going and what your are doing. It is not as glamorous as people think but I love it and it keeps me alive.”
