Beautiful baby bumps

Mums-to-be in Dacorum are celebrating the imminent births of their babies by having their baby bumps painted and photographed.

It is a new way pregnant women can pamper themselves and also keep a memento of their pregnancy.

The service is the result of a business alliance between nappysnaps, family and maternity photography, and Arty Face professional body painting.

nappysnaps proprietor and photographer, Kati Jackson, from Potten End, and Arty Face owner Wendy Holroyd, from St Albans, have created a portfolio to launch the service.

Kati, 29, said: "I met Wendy while I was working as a photographer at a children's party. She was painting faces and when I saw the work she did with the paints I came up with the idea of painting baby bumps."

Called Baby Boutique, expectant mums can book themselves in for a painting and photography session towards the end of their pregnancy, when their bumps are at their biggest.

The sessions take place at Kati's studio, on Hempstead Lane, but she and Wendy are also able to travel to people's homes.

Kati gave up work in marketing and communications back in 2006 to run nappysnaps full time.

She offers a variety of photography services, including family, maternity and personal indulgence but Baby Boutique is the most unusual.

The mothers-to-be come up with a design, which is then painted on their bump by Wendy and, once it is dry, photographed by Kati.

She said: "The paintings visually accentuate the size of the pregnant belly and the women who have had it done have found the experience relaxing. While Wendy and I run our businesses separately we have formed a permanent alliance to offer this particular service. It's quite exciting as the possibilities are endless."
