Berkhamsted and Tring Paralympic torch route finally revealed

editorial image

Now that the Olympics are over, the race to launch the Paralympics has begun as officials release the confirmed routes for the 24-hour torch relay.

Until now the exact route through Tring, Berkhamsted and Bourne End has been kept under wraps by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), which didn’t want the Olympics to overshadow the news.

The route will see the torchbearers travel from Donkey Lane in Tring and travel down Western Road, through the High Street and on to Brook Street.

In Berkhamsted it will go from The Meads along London Road and end at Hall Park Hill.

And in Bourne End it will travel from Bourne End Lane to Pouchen End Lane.

The timings have also been changed because of tweaks to the flame lighting ceremony at Stoke Mandeville.

Rather than starting off in Tring after midnight on Wednesday, August 29, the flame will be in Tring more than an hour earlier than anticipated at 11.10pm on Tuesday, August 28.

It will arrive in Berkhamsted at 11.45pm and in Bourne End at 12.18am the following day.

Tring town councillor Roxanne Ransley said: “It’s nice that the timings are earlier. We can hope to have more people attending.

“We want church bells ringing and a beacon lighting to make it really memorable.”
