Politicians have praised plans to rebuild a historic house that was pulled down due to dereliction on the site where 54 homes are being built.
Berkhamsted Town Council’s town planning committee said on Monday that Chase Green Developments had done ‘quite a reasonable job’ on the New Lodge application.
But chairman Laurence Handy did say more should be done to make another part of the development look more like neighbouring properties, such as The Old Mill pub.
He said the new application for that part of the site had been changed from what it was, but was still not good enough.
He said: “For what it’s worth, we actually had something that was rather bulky and not terribly elegant and now we have seem to have gone from one extreme to the other and we now have something that is rather bland.”
