A fun day is being held at a pony sanctuary to help keep it open.

Two Oaks Pony Sanctuary – which also houses two horses, 13 ponies, 70 chickens and two pigs – is at risk of closure.

Dacorum Borough Council says Two Oaks must pull down stables it has had for the last three years because they do not fit in with the Green Belt. New stables will cost owner Carol Houlihan £40,000.

A fundraising fun day including pony rides and more will be at the Darr’s Lane base in Northchurch from noon to 3pm on Sunday.

Miss Houlihan has mobilised children from Berkhamsted’s Westfield First School, where she is a lollipop lady, to support her.

Mum Bex Plenderleith said: “Carol really needs to raise money.”
