Berkhamsted novelist book signing event

BERKHAMSTED novelist Sue Hampton will be signing copies of her latest book The Judas Deer in Waterstones on Berkhamsted High Street on Saturday, June 11.

The book is her tenth for children and teenagers, the other nine include fantasy, historical novels, humour, and futuristic, speculative fiction. Three have been praised by Michael Morpurgo.

The story grew out of her love of walking with partner and fellow novelist Leslie Tate in the beautiful countryside around Berkhamsted, and seeing the white deer at Ashridge.

There are pictures in Jeth’s head and they make his world different. Dark memories and cartoon fantasies make him special, or strange - and when he sees a single white deer in the forest, life takes on a new dimension. Alone in the woods by night, he meets the runaway Zora, who lives with the deer but might have landed by spaceship from an even stranger world.

The novel is aimed at readers from 11 to 14, but like all her stories has enough depth to hold the interest of adults too.
