A song by a rock band whose original line-up featured a Hemel Hempstead man has soared in popularity after it featured in the series finale of a cult US drama.

Ron Griffiths moved to the town in 1970 after leaving Badfinger, whose 1971 hit Baby Blue has seen its online streaming figures increase by 9,000 per cent since Monday’s episode of Breaking Bad.

The episode was available on on-demand service Netflix in the UK after it was aired in America.

Ron, who played bass in the group which was also known as The Iveys, performed in a tribute concert to frontman Pete Ham earlier this year. Although he left before the song was released, he said: “I am pleased it is doing well, it was quite spooky to hear about it. I will catch up on the episode.”
