‘Budding actors need a theatre in this town’
Elena Redmond - Peter Pan
A budding performer thinks youngsters in her home town are missing out because it doesn’t have a large theatre.
Elena Redmond from Hemel Hempstead has written to MP Mike Penning about the issue.
She is the only youngster from the town to be picked for the chorus of Peter Pan at The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, which runs until December 30.
Her mum Claudia Redmond said: “This is the career she wants and she is getting invaluable experience working with director Ian McFarlane, who treats the young ones like adults to give them a taste of making a living out of the theatre.
“Elena is enjoying it but said she’s sad there’s no theatre in Hemel, where she could appear in a big production alongside talented youngsters from the town.”
Chorus members perform in 20 shows in the panto run, which they juggle with school commitments.
Claudia said: “Elena’s head teacher Paul Neves at John F Kennedy School has been so supportive.”
