When Volunteer Centre Dacorum manager Heather Allen took her car in for a service, she got into gear with a sharp sponsorship request.

And that’s how Brayley Honda at Two Waters Road, Hemel Hempstead, got involved with the centre’s summer raffle, stumping up three corporate hospitality tickets for next week’s highly-anticipated England match at Wembley, when Roy Hodgson’s team take on the ‘old enemy’ Scotland for the first time this century.

It’s the oldest international soccer fixture in the world, first played in 1872, but in recent years has been sidelined by other commitments.

Pictured drawing the winner from more than 600 entries is sales manager Terry Gravestock-Magee, watched by Heather, right, and volunteer Barbara Reynolds-Sale.

Managing director Paul Brayley said: “As a business serving the local community, we are pleased to play our part in supporting worthy causes wherever we can. The work of Volunteer Centre helps change people’s lives and we are privileged to be able to contribute.”

Heather said “When I was having my Honda Jazz serviced in June I couldn’t resist the temptation asking whether the garage might be interested in supporting the Volunteer Centre.

“It isn’t easy to raise funds for a charity that supports other charities from behind the scenes. But our services our vital to local organisations as we recruit over 1500 new volunteers for them each year.

“Without these volunteers many of the services we all take for granted just wouldn’t happen.”
