Employees at Giga Communications (Giga Comms) in Icknield Way Business Park, Tring met the Queen’s representative while she took a tour of the factory that manufactures high tech communications equipment.
She was escorted around by managing director Chris Lay, who founded the company in 2001 after 25 years in the industry.
The 2012 Queens Award for Enterprise in the international trade category is the second Queen’s Award for Giga Comms, after winning a similar accolade in 2005.
In her address to the staff the Lord Lieutenant said: “The Queen’s Award is not given easily.
“It has a rigorous selection process. Not many companies get them so you have done very well.”
Mr Lay gave all of his employees the afternoon off to say thank you for their hard work.
