CLOTHING store Peacocks in Hemel Hempstead has shut down as part of a deal to save the ailing chain.

The closure is one of 244 shutdowns across the country following a buy-out of the debt-ridden firm by Edinburgh Woollen Mill.

More than 3,000 jobs will be lost but 388 shops will stay open and more than 6,000 jobs have been preserved.
