A 100-YEAR-OLD pub was closed to the public yesterday after its landlady was evicted for getting into thousands of pounds of debt to the brewery.

Wendy Ryan of The Anchor in Tring was so determined to stay put at the venue in Western Road she refused a generous offer of having her debts cleared by Greene King.

The company offered to wipe away the £25,000 she owed and pay her first month’s rent in alternative accommodation if she moved out by September 1.

Instead the 62-year-old waited in hope that her bosses would take up an offer of £5,000 to start clearing her debt, but instead she has been evicted and faces bankruptcy.
