Beauty business booming

A beauty business has boomed as people seek feel-good treatments during the gloom of the economic downturn.

The appointments book continues to be full at Hemel Hempstead salon Nail Artistry despite the financial climate.

People may be tightening their belts, but nail and beauty pick-me-ups are proving to be the last luxuries sacrificed.

"We're still as busy as ever," says salon owner Anthea Stanley, 48.

"Our customers like to get away for an hour or so and spend some time on themselves.

"It's like a permanent coffee morning in here.

"It's relaxed and friendly and our customers chat away.

"It does make you feel good.

"If you have the worries of the world on your shoulder but feel good about yourself it makes a lot of difference."

The salon has even taken on a second qualified beautician, Debbie Halfpenny, to cater for demand.

The 22 year old, of Nash Green, Hemel Hempstead, has returned to the High Street after honing her skills at the old town Lavender Rooms, Champneys in Tring and De Beautique in Nash Mills.

She joins Nail Artistry's current beauty expert Danni Herdman, 24, of

Cambrian Way.

Mrs Stanley, of High Street Green, Hemel Hempstead, said: "Because of the salon's name people assume we just do nails, but actually we operate on all three floors of the building and offer a range of beauty

treatments."

Tucked away in a pretty old town building on High Street, Nail Artistry has a top-to-toe selection of beauty therapy.

Waxing, facials, massage and reflexology are just some of the feel-good treatments on offer, as well as tanning booths.

Manicures and nail treatments are where the business shines, with customers booking their appointments months in advance.

Mrs Stanley said: "Most of our clients come to us through word of mouth and stay with us for a long time.

"For lots of people, getting their nails done or having beauty treatments would be the last thing they'd give up when money's tight because it makes them feel good about themselves."
