Healthier Lunches and Successful Snacking.

Back to school or work after the holidays is always tough.

Getting back into routines and kicking those bad habits that we all acquired over the holidays.

Seems depressing, but think positive! It's actually an opportunity to get back to a more healthy balanced lifestyle and make a few changes.

'Few' being the important word here, don't do it all overnight you're bound to think you are being deprived of food and energy and your body will feel the same.

Tip 1 **each week make a healthy swap**

eg. Try wholemeal pitta bread sandwiches instead of your normal sandwich.

Put a small bag of dried fruit in your bag and you are less likely to succumb to the lure of the vending machine

Routine is boring isn't it? Words like humdrum, mundane spring to mind. Well banish boring and do something different.

Tip 2 **change the format of lunch**

eg. Take soup in a flask or a tub of your favourite salad for lunch (or both!) You are more likely to enjoy the novelty value of it.

Safety in numbers is also helpful, if you can get everyone doing it then you are all more likely to succeed as it becomes everyone's habit and its more likely to stick.

Tip 3 **Get the family or your work colleagues involved**

eg. The whole family does it. Kids lunchboxes, work lunches, snacks at home. Especially when it comes to who does the shopping!! Less unhealthy stuff - fewer temptations.

If we can all make a few positive changes to our eating patterns, it should be easier to eat more healthy food overall, I am not saying banish anything that has a whiff of unhealthy about it, but it is all about moderation.

Gradual changes to our eating behaviour that then become habits are far more likely to stick and we will all reap the benefits of eating healthier food.

Good luck!
