A BREWER hopes the skills he picked up from working in the space industry will help him create the country’s best beer.

Gary Hayward set up The Red Squirrel Brewery eight years ago after being made redundant from his job making satellites for the European Space Agency.

The weather forecast equipment he helped create is still floating over the Chinese Sea.

He said: “I come from a background of 100 per cent quality, because when you put things into space, you cannot get them back and fix them. Well, you can – but it costs billions of dollars.”

His precise approach has helped his London Porter brew win the Herts Beer of the Year title.
