Gist is recruiting apprentices in Hemel Hempstead

ONE of Hemel Hempstead’s largest employers is looking for school leavers to become apprentices at the firm.

Gist provides the warehousing and transport for a number of large, blue chip companies.

The company has an operating site in Boundary Way and an operating site and a people services site in Three Cherry Trees Lane.

Gist is taking on 50 young people in the first year of its new Apprenticeship scheme. The scheme will provide full-time work and training for college leavers at 10 of Gist’s distribution centres across England, including in Hemel Hempstead.

Apprentices will undergo a 12 month programme which incorporates their role in logistics operations.

Learning will take place on the job with formal training and support from Gist’s training subsidiary, Gist People Services. At the end of the year they will emerge with a nationally recognised qualification and the opportunity of a job.

Martin Gwynn, Gist’s chief executive, said: “The new Gist apprenticeship scheme provides excellent career opportunities for young people. As part of our logistics operation, apprentices will learn how to work as part of a team to ensure goods are delivered to our customers, meeting the strict time and efficiency measures we have in place. They will also gain a recognised qualification that will boost career prospects and develop their English, Maths, communication and personal learning skills”.

Gist Limited, through subsidiary, Gist People Services, has delivered more than 4,000 National Vocational Qualifications to staff and suppliers. In addition Gist takes on 50 graduates every year.
