Why is pump price so high?

Petrol prices are higher in Berkhamsted and Tring, and in neighbouring Hemel Hempstead, than most of the surrounding area.

Higher prices are forcing motorists to either pay more or travel further to fill up at the pumps.

Differences can vary by up to 6p per litre from the same petrol suppliers in Watford, St Albans and Luton.

The problem is arguably made worse in Berkhamsted and Tring due to a lack of supermarket fuel pumps.

Both the TCS garage in High Street Berkhamsted, and the Esso Garage in London Road sell unleaded fuel at 135.9p per litre, as recorded on Sunday.

But both Esso and TCS garages across Watford are selling unleaded fuel at 129.9p per litre.
