The driver of the Volvo F40 – a man in his 20s – was treated for minor injuries by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.

The occupants of the other car were not believed to be injured.

Closures were put in place at the Holiday Inn junction while emergency services worked at the scene.

The road was re-opened at 5.56pm.

One man was arrested at the scene but later released without charge.

These images were captured by artist Bilal Altaf, who was painting the street scene at the time of the incident.

Mr Altaf, who lives in Fairway, Hemel Hempstead, said: “I was in the middle of painting a building across the road with all the greenery, but now it’s ruined.”
