A Halfords employee went the extra mile by jumping to the aid of an elderly woman who fell outside the London Road store.

As soon as he heard about the accident, in which the woman hit her head and front teeth on the pavement, Callum Chance grabbed a thermal blanket from the store and rushed out to help. Staples staff from next door also joined in the good samaritan gang.

Callum said: “The lady seemed to be in shock and pain, and she was very cold, too. I just unwrapped the foil blanket and took it out to her, and I also gave her the fleece I was wearing. I stayed with her until an ambulance arrived, but she seemed a bit overwhelmed and wasn’t taking much in, so I kept talking to her and reassuring her that she would be okay.”

The unlikely team managed to get the woman up and brought her inside Staples to await paramedics. Callum gave the lady the foil blanket to take with her in the ambulance, adding that she could keep it in case she is in need again.
