Parishioners from St Mary’s Church, Apsley End collected more than £220 in an hour when they entertained shoppers at the nearby Sainsbury’s store with Christmas carols. Parochial church council treasurer Peter Bladon said: “Many thanks to all those shoppers who put their hands in their pockets to remember those who need support, especially at this time of year.”

The singers will also be at a Cghristmas party at Florence Longman House this week.
