Cars crash and go off road after ice hits highway

HAZARDOUS icy conditions have been causing chaos for motorists on the roads.

Police were called to a series of four car smashes on yesterday morning – two which happened on the same road in a 10-minute period.

A black Fiat Punto careered off of Leighton Buzzard Road at around 8am before crashing through a wooden fence.

Police were called to Redbourn Road near the junction with Cherry Trees Lane at around 9.17am after a Peogeot 106 and a transit van collided. On the same road, a red Vauxhall Agila went off the road at around 9.25am.

Emergency services were called again at 9.19am, when a green BMW ploughed into the central reservation on the A41 between Hemel Hempstead and Bourne End.

Noone was injured in any of the incidents.

Police have advised motorists to take extra precautions by driving more slowly in higher gears and accelerating and braking gently.
