WHEN Hetty Singfield woke up on her 100th birthday her first words were: ‘I’ve done it’.

The centenarian, of Lime Tree Manor in Adeyfield Road, celebrated the big day last Tuesday with close family and a cake.

The great-great grandmother was born in London but moved to be closer to her son Fred in Hemel Hempstead after she had a fall at home.

He said: “I know when she woke up in the morning she said to the carer: ‘I’ve done it’.

“A doctor came and said: ‘How do you feel?’ She said: ‘With my hands’. She knows what she’s on about.

“She’s always been a good cook, a sensible eater, fairly active. She’s very interested in sport. She used to do gymnastics when she was a little girl.

“She will have a glass of sherry but that’s about it.”

Hetty’s favourite thing to watch on TV is snooker and she loves to listen to Radio 2. Before retiring she worked doing beading for dance costumes.

Around 38 members of the family and friends also gathered to celebrate at a separate bash.
