Get Set Go Dacorum - helping others to get healthy

Have you got what it takes to motivate others to get fit and active?

Some people may need a bit of extra support to get started especially if they haven’t been active for some time so volunteers are being recruited who can act as buddies for this new initiative.

Get Set Go Dacorum is a ground-breaking project, designed to help local people to get active, get involved and get healthy.

A series of individual and family sports and activities are being held in local neighbourhoods across Dacorum.

Volunteers are needed who can help with promoting the project and others to take a ‘hands on’ roll.

Motivation volunteers and buddies help by taking part in the exercise classes and staying in contact with others who attend through emails, texts and phone calls to give them the support they need to stick at it.

Don’t worry if you are not sporty, you don’t need to be.

You just need to be willing to get up and go every week and support others to do the same.

If this is of interest to you contact Volunteer Centre Dacorum for details of how you could use your knowledge of social media to help behind the scenes.

A book club volunteer is needed to facilitate new groups for people with learning disabilities.

The groups will be using the ‘Books Beyond Words’ series that use pictures to tell stories tackling social issues such as general health and standing up for yourself.

The role is varied and involves helping to set up the venue and also welcoming participants as well as keeping accurate records and supporting the group with book choices.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with an outgoing, friendly personality with good interactive and social skills.

The right volunteer will be confident enough to lead the discussion whilst being sensitive and a good listener.
