A Hemel Hempstead choir is celebrating its golden jubilee by repeating its first performance from 50 years ago.
Founder of the Aeolian Singers Roy Abrams advertised in the Gazette for singers to perform Handel’s Messiah in 1963, and the group is now doing the same for its anniversary season next April at St John’s Church in Boxmoor.
Music director Stephen Jones said: “It was Roy Abrams’ ambition for a performance of Messiah that led to the choir’s creation, so we could not think of a better way to celebrate than by returning to this wonderful work.”
There will be an open rehearsal on Thursday, September 5. People are also welcome to any Thursday session, starting at 7.30pm at Leverstock Green Primary School, during term time. For more information, visit aeoliansingers.org.uk or call 07751 879541.
