A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.
COMMUNITY ACTION DACORUM
Community Action Dacorum needs volunteer helpers for a new door to store project which covers Berkhamsted, Tring, Aldbury, Gaddesden and Wigginton.
This is a service that helps those who are unable to use public transport to do their own shopping.
It helps people stay independent and gives them a chance to socialise, too.
Door to store helpers escort passengers from their home to the minibus and back again, help them with a bit of shopping and sometimes carry a few bags as well.
Help is needed for about four hours each time.
Age UK Dacorum
This home-grown charity is looking to recruit a volunteer who can speak Hindi, Punjabi or Urdu to befriend an elderly lady who lives in Markyate.
An hour of your time will make such a difference, even if it is only once a fortnight!
Kidney Research UK
This national charity needs help from a collection tin co-ordinators who can cover the Dacorum borough area.
The charity relies on donations to fund cutting edge research that helps save lives from kidney disease.
The role involves identifying sites for placing collection tins and then picking them up and banking the money.
You would also need to maintain accurate records and keep supporters supplied with publicity materials.
The right volunteer will have good organisational skills and the ability to use their own initiative and travel throughout the area.
Hours can be arranged to suit the volunteer and expenses are available.
Apsley Community Centre
If you love music and dancing and have experience of using a public address system, why not try your hand at being a second DJ at the regular tea dance sessions at the community centre on London Road? Dances are held fortnightly on Wednesday afternoons for 21/4 hours and you would alternate with our existing DJ who would be more than happy to show you the ropes on your first session.
