After a busy festive season the choir is looking forward to a new year, and new members are always welcome.

Rehearsals take place at the Astley Cooper School in Grovehill, from 9.45am to 11.15am each Tuesday in term time. Call 07736 473069 or 01442 217340 to find out more.

The choir performed in public five times in the weeks running up to Christmas.

These included a turn on the bandstand in Marlowes at the switching on of the Christmas lights, carol singing at Grovehill, two short concerts for shoppers at the Riverside Shopping Centre and a chance to perform seasonal songs from their repertoire at a Grovehill church service.

The choir also presented Star Bright, an evening of seasonal songs and organ music at Carey Baptist Church which attracted a very large audience. Musical director Rufus Frowde prepared a programme giving members significant challenges and opportunities to excel. Soprano Charlotte-Anne Shipley and organist Richard Hills were guest soloists.

Choir accompanist Judi Kelly deserves a special mention for her encouraging, friendly and sympathetic support throughout.

The concert helped to raise £721 for Hope for Children and Chris Lyne from the Hemel Hempstead-based chrity gave an interesting and enlightening address.

Readings were given by Anne Lyne, Doug Forster and Sally Davies.

Choir chairman Emma Reed said: ”We thoroughly enjoyed our last concert of the year and we were delighted to perform to such a large and enthusiastic audience. Our choir is all about bringing people together to enjoy singing and I think we achieved that tonight”.
