A pair of cockatiels who escaped from a Warners End home have been reunited with their owners thanks to the quick-thinking actions of a veterinary centre – and those who discovered the birds flying free in Hemel Hempstead.

Unfortunately four more are still unaccounted for, after the Pound family’s puppy accidentally pushed open their aviary door last week.

But one particularly tame cockatiel, named Tickle Tickle, landed on someone’s head in Gadebridge Park while another was picked up in the Old Town on the same day.

Both were brought into Barton Lodge vets on Midland Road, whose staff quickly appealed to social media users and managed to track down 19-year-old Ruth Pound. She and her family are still hoping for the safe return of the other four birds, including a distinctive grey and yellow one with a deformed foot.
