After the gluttony of Christmas, hundreds of families still managed to visit one of Dacorum’s ‘chip shops’ this week.

The borough council ran a series of recycling stations to turn used Christmas trees into chippings to be taken home and scattered in gardens.

A staggering 2,050 trees were taken to the shredding sites in Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring in the 18th year of the scheme, with the help of 1st Berkhamsted and 1st Tring Scouts who collected trees from homes.

Councillor Julie Laws said: “This is a good way to start New Year’s resolutions by recycling. It is great to see the community coming together, thank you to everyone who made the effort this year.”
