Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning has congratulated worthy Dacorum recipients of royal recognition announced in the New Year’s Honours list.

Dr Ros Taylor, director of the Northchurch-based Hospice of St Francis has received an MBE and Martin Crowhurst and Irene Heathcote have both been awarded the British Empire Medal.

Mike said: “I congratulate all three local recipients announced in the New Year’s Honours list.

“Dr Ros Taylor has done a huge amount of work in the field of hospice and end of life care and on behalf of the Hospice of St Francis in particular. Our local hospice has earned a huge amount of respect for the work it does and is highly regarded throughout the area.

“Ros has played a huge part in that and I am delighted that her work has been recognised in this way.

“Martin Crowhurst has given many years of service to a large number of local charities, organising a wide range of fundraising events. He is always the first to step up to the plate when help is needed.

“He thoroughly deserved the recognition he has received today. This is wonderful news!

“Irene Heathcote founded Quilts4London and organised the making of an incredible 17,000 pennants to be presented to Olympic and Paralympic athletes attending the London 2012 games.

“She also made pennants for regiments serving in Afghanistan which I was proud to present when I visited in 2010. Quilts4London was an incredible undertaking and I am delighted that Irene’s hard work and leadership in this has been rewarded.”
