Here’s the moment one Game of Thrones fan got so excited about Kings Langley’s themed name change, she almost lost her head.
Danielle Galloway was one of many avid viewers of the cult US television drama who flocked to the village’s temporary signs branding it Kings Landing – a fictional setting in the show – last month.
The two-week scheme was designed to boost tourism in the village and coincided with the launch of the show’s third series on DVD.
Production company HBO launched a Twitter competition with the hashtag #KingsLandingUK and picked grandmother Danielle, who moved to the village from Harrow last year, as the winner among tens of other entrants.
Though she hasn’t yet been told exactly what she has won, the Thrones fan Danielle is excited to have ‘goodies’ associated with the show sent to her home.
She said: “My daughter bought me the Game of Thrones seasons one and two boxset for Christmas and I was hooked.
“Then when King Langley was renamed Kings Landing, it was like fate. I have watched season three and cannot wait for season four, I feel like my life’s on hold!”
The signs, which were produced by Great Gaddesden-based live event production company TSE Productions, have now been taken down and replaced by Kings Langley’s original road signs, which have been given a service and spruce-up.
Parish and borough councillor Alan Anderson is keeping the plans for the specially-made Kings Landing signs under his hat for the time being, but said he was pleased the initiative overall was a success.
He said: “It has been a really good experience and I look forward to the village getting increased footfall as a result.
“We really did get worldwide coverage and I am grateful it has gone well.”
