A 64-year-oldis appealing for Dacorum’s help to find the handbag that was stolen from her while she visited the area recently.

Janet Davis, from Northumberland, left it in her car at Cooks Wharf, Cheddington, before setting off for a walk along the Grand Union Canal.

It was on the floor of the car’s passenger side – but by the time she got back the door had been forced open and it was gone.

The handbag had contained debit and credit cards, her bus pass, driver’s licence and some cash.

She said: “I had to sleep in my car overnight, because I was stranded with no way to pay for accommodation.”

Most preciously of all, it contained the only photo she had of herself and her parents on the day that they adopted her in the 1950s. Janet, who originally comes from Dacorum, said: “It was irreplaceable.”

Last week this website reported that a handbag thief had targeted mourners at Tring Cemetery
