A police disclosure scheme which allows women to check whether their partners have a history of domestic abuse was officially adopted by the Herts force on Tuesday.

Clare’s Law – developed in response to the murder of Clare Wood by her former partner in Greater Manchester five years ago – offers people a formal mechanism to make enquiries about someone they are concerned could have a violent past.

Herts’ police and crime commissioner David Lloyd said: “Increased reporting numbers in the county show us that people are feeling increasingly able to come forward. If people need help to avoid falling into such relationships, then any measure such as Clare’s Law is a positive step.”
