A CONMAN who duped a broken-hearted man into handing over thousands of pounds is back behind bars after police tracked him down in sunny Benidorm.
Simon Trussell was tricked into giving more than £12,000 to TV psychic George Lavery and his partner-in-crime John Hamilton, who promised to help him win back his lost love.
Lavery, who lived in High Street, Berkhamsted, at the time of the offences, between October 2007 and June 2008, and Hamilton, from St Leonards in Sussex, were found guilty of fraud by false representation.
They were sentenced to spells in prison in June 2009, even though the pair failed to turn up at St Albans Crown Court.
At the time police put out an appeal for the public’s help to track down the men.
However, officers have only just managed to find Lavery, who appeared before the Inner London Crown Court in Southwark last Wednesday.
He was originally jailed for three years and ordered to pay £5,500 to his victim, but last week he was ordered to spend a further 24 weeks behind bars for absconding.
But Hamilton, aged 54, is still being hunted by police and is also thought to be in Spain – possibly in Benidorm or in the wider Alicante region.
He was sentenced to 2½ years behind bars and ordered to pay £4,500 in compensation back in 2009.
