Police attempting to drive down catalytic converter thefts are offering a free security service for motorists.
Drivers of diesel cars and light commercial vehicles are bing offered free catalytic converter marking thanks to Herts officers and Hemel Hempstead garage STS Tyre Pros.
From Monday, the garage will be running the service from its depots at Unit 2 McDonald Way, off Maylands Avenue, and London Road.
According to police, catalytic converter theft is on the up due to rising metal prices.
Insp Paul Lawrence from the crime reduction unit said: “The theft of catalytic converters has been a recurring problem over the last couple of years, particularly from diesel vans as they are easier to access on high clearance vehicles. Marking the converters makes them much less appealing to thieves as they can easily be traced back to where they were stolen from.
